The city is broken up into five patrol areas for policing, with a Lieutenant responsible for each one.

Area 1 runs from Alameda on the West to Long Beach Blvd on the East.
Area 2 runs from Long Beach Blvd on the West to California on the East.
Area 3 runs from California on the West to Alexander on the East.
Area 4 runs from Alexander to the LA River on the East.
Area 5 runs from the LA river on the West to the East city limits.
