PUBLIC ALERT

Utility Payment Scam—Imposters Demanding

Payment Now Using Pre-Paid Cash Card or Their Services Will Be Stopped Today

The Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) report a financial scam currently going around.  Unknown Suspects are contacting people pretending to be with a Public Utility Company and threatening to immediately turn off their electric, gas or water service if payment is not made that day. Suspects typically tell Utility customers that they must make their payment using a pre-paid cash card and then direct them to another phone number where information is then obtained from the card and the cash value is removed from the card.

Not sure if you’re behind on your utility bill?  SoCalGas advises that genuine past due notifications are always made in writing to customers before service is shut-off for non-payment.  Customers who are unsure if they are late on their payments can contact SoCal Gas — or their local utility company — to get current account information and find out of they are past due on their bills.

So Cal Gas Company Phone Number

If customers receive a phone call that makes them feel uncomfortable, they should hang up and call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 or 1-800-342-4545 in Spanish, or contact their local law enforcement to make a police report.  South Gate residents who need to make a police report  should call (323) 563-5436
